Conseil des études supérieures et postdoctorales (CONESP) (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Council)
CONESP’s role:
- Oversees the overall quality of graduate studies, including the development of programs of study and conditions for students’ progression through the programs, including financial conditions.
- Is consulted on issues related to the supervision of graduate students, the development of postdoctoral internships at the university, and the enrichment of the professional development program for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
- May be mandated by the Commission des études (Academic Affairs Committee) to examine specific issues related to graduate studies and postdoctoral internships.
- Reports to the Academic Affairs Committee and, where appropriate, makes recommendations.
Composition of CONESP:
CONESP is chaired by the Assistant Vice-Rector, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Members:
- Assistant Vice-Rector, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
- Associate Vice-Rectors for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
- Director General of Library Services
- Chair of the Research Committee of the Assemblée universitaire (University Assembly)
- Members named by the Academic Affairs Committee, on the recommendation of its Appointments
- Committee:
- Twelve professors from different disciplines
- Two students appointed by the student union, FAÉCUM
- One postdoctoral fellow
- One representative from each affiliated school
- HEC Montréal
- Polytechnique Montréal

Sous-commission des études supérieures (SCESUP) (Graduate Academic Affairs Subcommittee)
SCESUP examines all matters related to programs of study, primarily proposals from academic units to create or modify programs, and then makes recommendations to the Academic Affairs Committee.
SCESUP is chaired by the Assistant Vice-Rector for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
SCESUP’s role:
- Studies all matters related to graduate programs, at the request of the Academic Affairs Committee or the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies, or on its own initiative, and makes recommendations to the Academic Affairs Committee.
- Consults all the deans when establishing standards.
- Consults the relevant dean(s) or their representative when projects are under consideration.
- Where relevant, hears up to three representatives of student associations recognized in accordance with the standards adopted by the Assemblée universitaire (University Assembly) that are affected by a specific proposal to create or modify a program.
- Before each meeting, sends its agenda to all the deans and to FAÉCUM. Upon request, forwards the documents that will be studied.
- Exercises the powers delegated to it by the Academic Affairs Committee.
- Submits an annual report on its activities to the Academic Affairs Committee.

- Representatives of the affiliated schools (HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal), the Faculty of Arts and Science, and the Faculty of Medicine
- Appointed members (up to seven additional members)
