Foreign Postdoctoral Fellows

Are you a foreign candidate thinking about pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Université de Montréal?

If so, please note that you must foresee a period of many months to complete all immigration procedures and receive the required authorizations to work as a Postdoctoral fellow in Canada. Consequently, if Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies considers that you will not receive your work permit in due time, your admission application may be deferred a subsequent term.

Medical insurance

International fellows and new permanent residents can apply for a health insurance card with the Régie de l’assurance-maladie du Québec (RAMQ). For more information, please visit the RAMQ website

A waiting period of up to three months after your registration applies. It is highly recommended that international postdoctoral fellows and new permanent residents subscribe to a basic private medical insurance for the first three months of their stay until they receive their health insurance card. You can buy medical insurance in your home country or from Canada.

Various private insurance options can be found on the Ombudman service for Life & Health Insurance website.
