Immigration Procedures

UdeM International

If you have any questions about immigration and formalities for entering Canada, we invite you to contact UdeM International, who can answer any questions you may have.

International Postdoctoral Trainees

Immigration Canada considers a postdoctoral trainee to be a worker/employee and must therefore obtain a work permit. It is strongly recommended that postdocs consult Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's (IRCC) : work permit requirements.

You should allow several months for processing times when applying for a work permit. Processing times depend on the applicant's country of residence when submitting the work permit application. Consequently, if the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) deems that you will not obtain your work permit within the required timeframe, it is possible that your application for admission will be deferred to a later term.

The Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) are not authorized to provide assistance in the process of applying for an entry permit to Canada. Any questions should be addressed directly to UdeM International's immigration advisors.

Job Offer and Employer Compliance Fees

When a work permit is required for your stay in Canada, you will need to include the job offer number and the employer's compliance fee receipt with your work permit application. To obtain this information and these documents, please contact the management of the academic unit hosting you at UdeM.
