Registration for a Postdoctoral Formation

Once admitted, GPS will register you for the duration of your postdoctoral stay.

Please note: International postdoctoral trainees who receive an offer of admission must, upon arrival, upload their work permit to their Synchro Academics Website (centre étudiant) so that we can finalize registration. Follow the upload procedure on the Admission website.

IMPORTANT : The registration period cannot exceed the validity of the work permit.

Postdoctoral trainees registered with GPS may:

  • Create an institutional e-mail account using their username (access code and UNIP);
  • Access certain computer services;
  • Obtain a library access card.

It is very important to activate Mon Accès UdeM, in order to manage the user's computer file, which contains all the services offered by Information Technology.

All international postdoctoral trainees must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN), failing which they will be unable to receive any form of remuneration in Canada.

Throughout your Postdoctoral Training

You must keep your file up to date. We encourage you to keep a copy of the documents you provide to GPS. It's important to renew your registration on time. Of course, if you are an international postdoctoral trainee, you must ensure that your immigration status remains valid for the entire duration of your training (without interruption). Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies does not issue reminders for postdoctoral training extensions.

  • If your contact information changes, you must make the change in your UdeM portal and notify your research center and the Human Resources Department (for postdoctoral trainee with an employee status).
  • When your documents expire, you must apply to renew your work permit, permanent residence card and passport. You must provide GPS with a copy of these renewed documents.
  • The person pursuing a postdoctoral training at an affiliated research center of UdeM, but located off campus, such as the Institut de cardiologie de Montréal, CRCHUM, CHU Sainte-Justine, Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, etc., must also ensure that their files are kept up to date at this center.
  • If you change your status from employees to fellowship holder, please inform us and send us your scholarship award letter.
  • In the case of parental leave, please inform us and send us a copy of the child's birth certificate so that we can extend your eligibility period accordingly.

End of Postdoctoral Training

It is essential to notify GPS when your postdoctoral training ends, by writing to: postdoc@esp.umontreal.ca and copying your academic unit. For employed postdoctoral trainee, you must provide the Human Resources Department with a postal address and a valid e-mail address.
