Three Minute Thesis

Pre-selection

As of last year, a pre-selection will be set up to allow all students wishing to participate in the competition to present their oral presentation in order to be chosen by the jury to participate in the institutional final.

All candidates registered for the pre-selection will be able to present their oral presentation to the jury. Subsequently, the jury will retain only the 20 best candidates in total from the two competitions for the institutional final.

The pre-selection will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. The candidates from the pre-selection will be judged by a jury of three to four members. Only 20 candidates will be able to subsequently participate in the institutional final on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Institutional Final

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, the English equivalent of Ma thèse en 180 secondes, will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 1:30 PM, at UdeM. The 3MT competition will also be Web-broadcast on the UdeM’s YouTube Channel.

The Three Minute Thesis competition is open to all students enrolled in a master’s or doctoral research program. It provides them with an opportunity to present their research in lay terms to a diverse and secular audience. The presentation must be in English

The winner of the competition will be awarded a $500 prize and will be invited to represent Université de Montréal at the Eastern Regional Competition, held by CAGS, that will take place in June 2026.
